General Description

SUNY Niagara is seeking to fill a part-time Surgical Technology Clinical Coordinator – Technical Assistant position. This position is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the clinical education component of the program. This position provides administration, organization, supervision, and academic oversight of student clinical experiences to ensure students achieve clinical competence and meet program outcomes and accreditation standards.

The Clinical Coordinator works collaboratively with the Surgical Technology ProgramCoordinator, on-site clinical instructors, clinical site personnel, and program leadership to maintain high-quality clinical education experiences and support student success.

This is a part-time position with flexible scheduling based on program and clinical site needs. Occasional evening hours or travel to clinical sites may be required.

The rate of pay is based on the level of education the candidate possesses. For a Bachelor’s degree or lower the rate of pay will be $22.52 per hour. For a Master’s degree or higher the rate of pay will be $24.76 per hour.

Typical Work Activities

Clinical Education Coordination

• Coordinate all aspects of clinical education for Surgical Technology students.
• Administer, organize, and supervise student clinical experiences at affiliated clinical sites along with the on-site clinical instructor.
• Coordinate student clinical assignments and scheduling in collaboration with clinical affiliates and program leadership using the clinical affiliate onboarding process.
• Monitor student attendance, progression, and clinical performance throughout the program along with the on-site clinical instructor using Platinum Planner.

Clinical Site Collaboration

• Serve as liaison between the Surgical Technology Program and clinical affiliates along with the on-site clinical instructor.
• Ensure orientation to program requirements for personnel who supervise or instruct students at clinical sites.
• Foster positive working relationships with clinical instructors, preceptors, and healthcare facilities.
• Participate in clinical site visits and evaluations as required.

Oversight

• Provide oversight related to clinical instruction and student learning.
• Maintain knowledge of the Surgical Technology curriculum and program outcomes.
• Support faculty in evaluating student learning and clinical performance.
• Participate in faculty meetings, accreditation activities, and program development initiatives as assigned.

Essential Functions

Must be able to operate computers; must be able to relate and be sensitive to the diverse needs of the community college student population; must have excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with library patrons in-person and online; must be able to learn new skills in a changing environment; must be able to prepare library promotional materials, written reports, and presentations using technology; must be able to physically perform the functions of the position; must be able to work a flexible schedule, ability to travel to affiliated clinical sites; ability to communicate effectively in classroom, clinical, and office settings; ability to perform tasks associated with clinical observation and supervision.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an education program in Surgical Technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
• Current credential in Surgical Technology through a national certification program accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies ( NCCA ).
• Minimum of three (3) years of documented experience within the past five years in:
  • the operating room scrub role
  • instruction in Surgical Technology,
  • or a combination of both.
• Knowledge of Surgical Technology curriculum and instructional practices.
• Knowledge of program evaluation methods related to student learning and clinical performance.

Desirable Qualifications

• Previous experience coordinating clinical education in an allied health or Surgical Technology program.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with student assessment, accreditation standards, and clinical documentation systems.
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and clinical partners.

License(s)/Certifications

Current credential in Surgical Technology through a national certification program accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies ( NCCA ).
