Job summary

Akron Area YMCA is seeking a PT Swim Instructor to deliver safe, engaging swim lessons with a focus on water safety. You will supervise classes, track progress, and maintain equipment while building positive relationships with participants and families.

The role requires current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification, BLS/CPR/AED, First Aid, and child abuse prevention training within 90 days. The position is on-site and part-time.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 15.
• Certifications: BLS/CPR/AED, First Aid, and emergency oxygen administration.
• Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification, or equivalent.
• Child abuse prevention training within 90 days of hire date.
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
• Demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swimming lessons per YMCA guidelines with prepared lesson plans.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with participants, families and volunteers.
• Convey information about aquatics programs and schedules.
• Provide positive feedback and reinforcement to students.
• Apply pool safety rules and respond calmly under pressure.
• Arrive early to set up, tear down, and report equipment issues.
• Finish lessons on time and wear appropriate attire.
• Provide substitutes with lesson plans and progress trackers.
• Maintain records of progress and certifications as required.
• Attend meetings and training sessions; perform other duties as assigned.
