Job summary

Woodland-Heights-Medical-Center is seeking a Surgical Technician First Assist to support surgeons during operations, maintain the sterile field, and handle instruments and supplies for efficient procedures. You will assist with exposure, tissue handling, hemostasis, and wound closure under the surgeon’s direction.

The role requires 1–3 years in acute care, CST certification, BCLS, and strong teamwork to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience as a Surgical Technician or First Assist in an acute care setting required.
• CST - Certified Surgical Technologist required.
• CSFA - Certified Surgical First Assistant through NBSTSA required or
• CSA - Certified Surgical Assistant through NSAA required.
• BCLS - Basic Life Support required.
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred.

Responsibilities

• Functions as scrub person during procedures, prepares sterile supplies and maintains sterile field.
• Performs first assistant duties: exposure, instrument handling, suctioning, sponging per surgeon.
• Dissects tissues, clamps vessels, coagulates, places drains as instructed.
• Assists with wound closure and dressing per surgeon instructions.
• Maintains sterility and safety standards, conducts counts, follows infection control.
• Prepares and transports instruments for decontamination.
• Assists in post-procedure room turnover and cleaning.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
