Job summary

Community Health Systems in Texas is seeking a Surgical Technician First Assist to support surgeons during procedures, maintain a sterile field, hand instruments, and assist in critical tasks.

This role requires 1–3 years of acute care experience, CST/CSFA/CSA certification, BCLS, ACLS preferred, and a part-time day shift. The team collaborates closely with nurses and anesthesia providers to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience as a Surgical Technician or First Assist in an acute care setting.
• CST certification required or CSFA/CSA certification.
• BCLS required; ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Functions as a scrub person during surgical procedures, preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instruments.
• Performs first assistant duties including exposure through instrument handling, retractors, suctioning, and sponging.
• Dissects tissues, clamps blood vessels, coagulates bleeding points, and places drains as instructed.
• Assists with wound closure, suturing, and dressing per surgeon instructions.
• Ensures sterility and safety, performs counting with RN circulator, and follows infection control protocols.
• Prepares and transports instruments for decontamination and sterilization.
• Assists in post-procedure room turnover and prepares areas for next surgeries.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
