Overview

The Junior Center’s mission is to cultivate curiosity and creative exploration through the arts and sciences. Located in Oakland on Lake Merritt, we serve youth and families throughout Oakland and beyond. We value equity and representation in art and science, striving to provide equitable access to our programs.

We offer hands-on, engaging programs through interactive learning spaces, exhibitions, camps, workshops, and classes both on-site and off-site.

Job Summary and Description

Each summer, the Junior Center hosts 1-2 week arts and science camps for children aged 5-14. Camps run Monday - Friday, 9am - 4pm. The Summer Camp Coordinator works directly with the Program Director and Executive Director to support camp operations, including audience development and daily management.

Program Coordination and Camp Operations
  • Oversee camp activities and manage daily operations, including family sign-in/out, camper info, camp rosters, and communication with families.
  • Participate in camp activities, staff meetings, and assist with maintenance and safety procedures.
  • Prepare reports, organize supplies, and manage camp databases.
  • Coordinate and manage volunteers, serve as the main contact for campers and families, supervise during free play and lunch, and support staff with conflict resolution and activity ideas.
Reception
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for visitors, answer phones, and provide information to families and guests.
Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates are goal-oriented, self-motivated, experienced with youth and customer service, detail-oriented, IT proficient, physically capable of lifting up to 40 lbs, reliable, flexible, and able to work Monday-Friday.
