Job description

Purpose and Scope

The Student Assistant performs standard administrative duties for multiple individuals or customers. Responsibilities are routine and may be repetitive. Tasks may include receiving and logging information, making copies, sorting and distributing mail, preparing correspondence or basic documents, answering routine questions and inquiries, providing information and directions, and providing a customer‑friendly environment.

Essential Job Functions
  • Operate various office equipment such as PC, printer, photocopier, fax, scanner, and calculator.
  • Open, sort, and distribute mail for one or more managers.
  • Perform clerical tasks related to job responsibilities and departmental projects, including typing and proofreading letters, memorandums, forms, and reports.
  • Maintain and file departmental documents.
  • Assist with distribution of information to the public, students, and faculty by phone, mail, or other appropriate means.
  • Provide support to assigned area during college representation functions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all records and databases associated with assigned area.
  • Perform other reasonable, related duties as assigned.

Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary. Employees sit comfortably to perform tasks. The job may involve some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items such as papers, books, or small parts, or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required.

Work Schedule and Conditions
  • Equipment used includes PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and general office equipment.
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed.
  • Work performed in a climate‑controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current enrollment as a Lone Star student pursuing a course of study.
Salary

Hourly pay rate: $13.00.
