Job summary

Syracuse University is seeking part-time instructors to teach 4-credit beginning and/or intermediate Spanish courses (SPA 101-202) for Fall 2026. Appointment begins August 17, 2026, with classes starting August 24, 2026.

Offer contingent on enrollment and funding, with on-campus in-person duties required. Responsibilities include syllabus development, materials ordering, lectures and assignments, and maintaining office hours.

Qualifications

• Native or near-native fluency required.
• Experience teaching at university level preferred.
• Experience with communicative, proficiency-oriented language instruction preferred.
• Familiarity with flipped classroom methodology preferred.
• Experience integrating instructional technology, including AI-supported language learning tools, into language instruction preferred.

Responsibilities

• Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
• Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
• Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
• Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week.
• Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class.
• Meet all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, reschedule and inform the department chair.
• Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
• Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
• Grading student assignments and exams promptly; providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed evaluations.
• Completing all other course-related duties as outlined by department policies for part-time instructors.
• Building a positive rapport with the students and faculty.
