Job summary

Syracuse University is seeking a part-time instructor to teach 4-credit sections of Italian I (ITA 101) in Fall 2026. Appointment begins August 17, 2026, with the semester starting August 24, 2026. The position emphasizes on-campus engagement and regular in-person presence.

Master’s degree and native or near-native fluency required; university teaching experience preferred. Compensation is per-credit with eligibility to funding and enrollment variations, and salary processes depend on the home

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required.
• Native or near-native fluency in Italian.

Responsibilities

• Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
• Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
• Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
• Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week.
• Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class.
• Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, reschedule or obtain a substitute and notify the department chair.
• Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
• Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
• Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
• Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
• Completing all other course related duties as outlined by your department’s policies for part-time instructors.
• Building a positive rapport with the students and faculty.
