Job summary

Sylvania invites a part-time Cook to support school nutrition services by preparing meals that meet mandated nutritional standards and by maintaining sanitary kitchen environments for students and staff.

In a busy school kitchen, you’ll follow recipes, estimate quantities, monitor quality and safety, manage basic inventory, and assist with serving while participating in district training and maintaining cleanliness throughout all prep and service areas.

Qualifications

• Operating commercial kitchen equipment and following safety protocols.
• Preparing food according to recipes and nutritional standards.
• Maintaining sanitation and food safety practices in all areas of the kitchen.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook food items from recipes or prepared ingredients to meet nutritional standards.
• Estimate food quantities and adjust recipes to meet meal production needs.
• Inspect food items to verify quality and compliance with health standards.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, utensils, and food preparation areas.
• Monitor kitchen operations to ensure safe and sanitary food service practices.
• Maintain inventory of food, supplies, and condiments for meal preparation.
• Prepare special dietary meals and allergy-safe items as required.
• Evaluate food quality and presentation before service.
• Assist with serving food items to students and staff.
• Report equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs.
• Participate in training sessions and meetings related to food service operations.
• Assist with other food service duties to ensure adequate staffing.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
