Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital in Tallmadge seeks a Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support under a Provider or licensed Nurse.

The role handles patient prep, vital signs, phlebotomy, lab specimens, EMR documentation (EPIC), and coordination with school health staff. Part-time, onsite, 35 hours/week, with 730am-230pm shift.

Strong knowledge of medical terminology and office software is required; MA certificate and BLS preferred. Experience in healthcare is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate program is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA is required.
• Medical Assistant certification (CMA/RMA) preferred.
• Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with patients and families of Akron Children’s Hospitals.
• Prepares patients for examination; records vital signs; performs phlebotomy as needed; administers medications as directed.
• Collects data for assessment and discharge planning under supervision.
• Collects, processes, and submits laboratory specimens per policy.
• Communicates findings to Providers/Nurses using documentation processes.
• Documents care accurately in the school medical record.
• Performs department-specific duties such as POCT, hearing/vision screenings.
• Handles general office duties (faxing, copying, filing) as needed.
• Cleans, stocks, and prepares examination rooms.
• Maintains positive relationships with patients, families, school personnel and colleagues.
• Fulfills all assignments during scheduled hours; adheres to safety policies.
