Job summary

Akron Children's Health is seeking a part-time Medical Assistant to support physicians and nurses in the Tallmadge school health program. The role involves both clinical and administrative tasks onsite during school days, with a emphasis on patient preparation, vital signs, and specimen handling.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, completion of a MA program, BLS certification, and familiarity with EPIC or similar EMR systems; CMA/RMA preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Certificate Program, EMT, or Paramedic program is required.
• BLS training from the American Heart Association is required.
• Medical Assistant certification (CMA or RMA) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with patients and families of Akron Children's Hospitals.
• Prepares patients for examination; takes and records vitals; performs phlebotomy as needed.
• Collects data contributing to care assessment and discharge planning under supervision.
• Collects, processes and submits laboratory specimens per policy.
• Communicates patient findings to Providers/Nurses using proper documentation.
• Documents care accurately in the school health record.
• Performs department-specific clinical duties (POCT, hearing/vision screenings).
• Performs general office duties (faxing, copying, filing) as needed.
• Cleans and stocks examination rooms; maintains a safe environment.
• Develops positive relationships with patients, families, staff.
