Job summary

First Student is hiring a Part Time School Bus Driver in Detroit, Michigan. You will start mornings with pickup and transport students home in the afternoon; additional hours for field trips may be available. This role is safety‑sensitive and requires valid endorsements and background screening.

You will work a split AM/PM schedule with guaranteed minimum hours. Benefits include medical/dental/vision, 401(k) with company match, and opportunities across locations in the U.S. & Canada.

Qualifications

• Valid CDL-B Passenger Endorsement
• School Bus (S) Endorsement
• No Air Brake Restriction (or have air brakes)
• PDDP/Drug & Alcohol Program compliant
• Able to pass background screening
• Meet DOT physical requirements

Responsibilities

• Safely transport students to and from school and activities.
• Supervise boarding and unloading at stops; assist students with seatbelts and mobility aids.
• Maintain order on the bus to prevent distractions.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections (brakes, lights, tires, emergency exits).
• Report mechanical issues promptly and keep the bus clean and sanitary.
• Obey all traffic laws and company safety standards.
• Communicate with parents, school staff, and dispatch about student behavior or delays.
• Demonstrate leadership and customer service skills.
