Job summary

Iona University is seeking a Part-Time Research Librarian to support students and university affiliates with research services. The role includes in‑person and virtual desk coverage on Sundays 4 p.m.–8 p.m. and Thursdays 2 p.m.–7 p.m., with potential additional hours during holidays.

Responsibilities include guiding patrons, creating research guides, and teaching sessions as needed; building rounds and statistics tracking are also part of the role.

Qualifications

• MLS or working towards a master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited institution with degree completion by date of hire.
• Library experience or coursework in providing research support.
• Familiarity and experience using electronic resources and databases.
• Must have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• Competency in MS Office suite.
• Must have strong customer service orientation.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-person and virtual Research Desk services.
• Assist with creation and maintenance of research guides and online tutorials.
• Instruct library patrons to effectively research and utilize resources in all formats.
• Teach research instruction classes as needed.
• Conduct building rounds and compile statistics.
• Participate in library operations including circulation, managing student workers and open/close the building.
• May perform other duties as requested by manager.
• Schedule is subject to change to accommodate the academic calendar and staffing needs.
