Qualifications

• MLS or working towards a master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited institution with degree completion by date of hire.
• Experience in providing research support and library instruction.
• Familiarity with electronic resources/databases and virtual reference tools.

Responsibilities

The Part-Time Research Librarian is responsible for providing research assistance to students and other members of the Iona University community. The schedule for this position is Sunday 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. And Thursday 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. This position may have the opportunity to work additional hours as needed, including holidays.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for in-person and virtual Research Desk services.May assist with the creation and maintenance of research guides and online tutorials.Instruct library patrons to effectively research and utilize resources in all formats.Teach research instruction classes as needed.Conduct building rounds and compile statistics.Participate in library operations that include circulation, managing student workers and open/close the library building.May perform other job duties and responsibilities as requested by manager.Schedule is subject to change to accommodate the academic calendar and staffing needs.Required:MLS or working towards a master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited institution with degree completion by date of hire.Library experience or coursework in providing research support.Familiarity and experience using electronic resources and databases.Must have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.Competency in basic office technology including MS office suite.Must have strong customer service orientation.Preferred:Experience teaching one-on-one or in a classroom environment.Comfortable with basic instructional technology and software.Knowledge or experience with Springshare products (LibGuides, LibAnswers).Experience with virtual reference tools such as video conferencing.Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.About Iona/EEO Statement:Founded in 1940, Iona University is a private, Catholic, coeducational institution of learning in the tradition of the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers.
