Job summary

Howard Community College is seeking a part-time Lab Assistant for the Physical Therapist Assistant Program to support hands-on learning in PTA labs. The role involves preparing labs, assisting demonstrations, supervising practice, and promoting safe, patient-centered techniques under faculty supervision.

The ideal candidate will hold a PT or PTA license or be a graduate of an accredited PTA/PT program, have at least one year of full-time clinical experience, and demonstrate strong communication

Qualifications

• Current license as Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant.
• Graduate of an accredited PT or PTA program.
• Minimum of one year full-time clinical experience in physical therapy.
• Competence in foundational physical therapy procedures and patient care.
• Ability to safely operate PT equipment and assist students.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students.
• Commitment to an inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare laboratory spaces, equipment, supplies before lab sessions.
• Assist faculty during demonstrations, skills practice, simulations.
• Provide supervised opportunities for students to practice psychomotor skills.
• Monitor student safety and equipment use during labs.
• Assist with cleaning, disinfecting, and organizing lab equipment.
• Maintain a professional, clinical lab environment.
• Demonstrate professional behavior and patient‑centered care.
• Report equipment concerns or safety issues to supervising faculty.
• Maintain student privacy per FERPA and institutional policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by program leadership.
