Job summary

The YMCA of South Hampton Roads is looking for a Counselor I to support the Counselor II in a nurturing preschool environment. You will supervise children, assist with developmentally appropriate activities, and ensure safety and positive engagement during after-school hours at multiple locations.

The role emphasizes teamwork, family communication, and ongoing professional development. Candidates must be at least 16, consent to background checks, CPR/First Aid within 30 days, and be able to work

Qualifications

• CPR/First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire.
• Background checks will be completed prior to employment.
• Adequate speaking, hearing and writing skills for interacting with children.

Responsibilities

• Supervision and safety of children at all times.
• Assist in preparing and implementing curriculum and activities.
• Engage children in meaningful play and learning experiences.
• Model positive behavior and reinforce appropriate actions.
• Communicate with children, families, staff, and leadership.
• Participate in training sessions and staff meetings.
