Job summary

Crossroads YMCA, in Crown Point, IN, seeks a part-time Teacher Assistant I for the Preschool program. You will assist the Teacher Lead in planning activities, caring for children, and delivering a safe, welcoming classroom aligned with YMCA values.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in childcare is preferred.
• 12 continuing education units annually are required.
• CPR/AED & First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Supports curriculum implementation under Teacher Lead guidance.
• Nurtures children with purposeful programming and builds belonging.
• Supervises classroom, activities, and behavior management.
• Keeps ongoing observations and assessments of each child.
• Communicates with parents and engages them as volunteers.
• Maintains program site and required records (attendance, discipline).
• Attends family nights, events, and staff trainings as required.
• Supports materials access for remote classes and classroom goals.
• Contributes to teamwork with other departments and helps with gifts for campaigns.
