Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a part-time Lifeguard to maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool and surrounding areas, and promote member safety, youth development and healthy living in line with YMCA policies.

You'll perform emergency readiness, enforce safety rules, conduct pool maintenance, test chemicals, and participate in staff trainings while building positive relationships with members and other staff.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 16 years.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard Certification, American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or obtain YMCA Lifeguard Certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard and obtain YMCA Lifeguard certification within 30 days of hire.
  • ASHI certifications for CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen (and related training) prior to first shift.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safe swimming conditions and enforce pool rules.
  • Perform pool maintenance and cleaning (vacuuming, deck tiles, trash pickup).
  • Test pool chemicals and maintain accurate records.
  • Respond to emergencies according to YMCA standards.
  • Attend staff meetings/trainings (minimum 4 hours in-service per month).
  • Maintain certifications and Kronos time sheets accuracy.
