Job summary

Summa Health Akron City Campus is seeking a part-time Food Service Aide to accurately obtain meal orders from patients by phone or on nursing units, and to educate them on prescribed diets during meal selection.

You will use computers to process orders, coordinate with kitchen peak periods, and communicate with nursing staff and tray passers to ensure timely, accurate service while maintaining patient food safety and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• High school coursework in English grammar, composition and basic mathematics.
• One year related food service experience.
• Ability to be active and on feet most of the day, lift, push and pull light to medium weight objects; occasionally push and pull heavy weight objects.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally with patients, nursing staff, customers and staff.
• Ability to answer telephones and use computer and related office equipment.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
• Ability to be prompt, effective and efficient when handling phone transactions.
• Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.

Responsibilities

• Accurately obtains meal orders from patients via phone calls or assisting the patient on the nursing unit with computer.
• Identifies and educates patients on their prescribed diets during the meal selection.
• Uses the computer to process orders with consideration for delivery times and peak periods in the kitchen.
• Communicates with the nursing staff and traypassers regarding any patient food and nutrition needs.
