Job summary

Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) to provide organizational, receptionist, and clerical support to patient care units and the healthcare team.

You will monitor supplies, answer call lights, assist with orders in the EHR, and communicate with patients and staff while supporting continuous improvement. This nonexempt, part-time role requires flexibility for days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays; shifts are 3 x 12 hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Basic knowledge of computer systems and strong keyboarding skills (i.e., Windows-based applications, LAN use, and intranet/internet use) required.
• Successful completion of HUC post-secondary program, or HUC Certification preferred.
• Minimum of one year working experience in a medical environment preferred.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.
• Preferred proficiency of computer skills.
• Working knowledge with EHR systems, EPIC preferred.
• Outstanding customer service, interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Adapts effectively to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.
• Availability to work flexible hours including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Provides organizational, receptionist, and clerical support to patient care units and the health care team.
• Monitors and orders supplies, promptly answers patient call lights, and elevates patient needs to nursing staff.
• Assists the care team with managing orders in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, and facility staff and supports the continuum of care.
• Functions as a resource to members of the health care team and is familiar with Mayo Clinic resources.
• Carries out all aspects of the job with good judgment, problem-solving, and self-development; participates in continuous improvement.
