Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Collect and enter patient demographic and insurance information accurately and promptly.
• Obtain signed statements and required documentation to support hospital procedures.
• Route appropriate forms and copies to designated departments.
• Explain the admissions process and provide directions to the appropriate service areas.
• Coordinate with greeters to arrange escorts for patients who need assistance.
• Explain hospital regulations, visiting hours, payment procedures, and patient rights.
• Treat patients and families with respect, dignity, and compassion.
• Provide clear explanations and verbal reassurance when needed.
• Identify patients who may need help paying their bills and refer them to a financial counselor or appropriate agency.
• Answer questions professionally and help direct patients and families to the right resources.
• Answer telephone calls politely and direct information to the appropriate personnel or family members.
• Operate the hospital switchboard and direct incoming calls when the switchboard operator is off duty.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors, coworkers, physicians, patients, and the public.
• Handle cash payments, record transactions, provide change and receipts, and balance the cash drawer.
• Protect confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA and applicable state and federal regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
