Job summary

TheraPeds Partners is seeking a part-time, on-site Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) for a school-based position in Greenville, SC. The role focuses on direct services, assessments, IEP development, progress evaluation, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree, COMS certification, and school experience with children who have visual impairments. Fingerprint clearance and strong communication are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree in Orientation & Mobility, Vision Studies, or related field preferred
• COMS Certification (ACVREP) required or preferred
• 1+ years of experience in a school setting
• Experience working with children with visual impairments
• Knowledge of orientation and mobility assessments and instruction
• Fingerprint background clearance
• Ability to collaborate with school staff and parents with a high level of tact and discretion in communications

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and assess individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
• Deliver instruction tailored to diverse learning styles and needs.
• Collaborate with parents, educators, and specialists for a comprehensive approach.
• Assess school campuses for travel safety.
• Recommend environmental modifications.
• Help plan safe travel routes around the school.
• Monitor student progress and adapt instructional strategies.
• Provide one-on-one or small group instruction.
• Tailor lessons based on vision level, age, mobility needs.
• Adjust strategies for students with additional disabilities.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress.
• Create a welcoming, safe classroom environment.
• Provide guidance to staff implementing instructional strategies for students with special needs.
