Job summary

TheraPeds Partners is seeking a part-time, on-site Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) for a school-based position in Republic, MO. This role involves delivering direct O&M services, conducting assessments, developing IEPs, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to support PreK–12 students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; graduate degree in Orientation & Mobility, Vision Studies, or related field preferred.
• COMS Certification (ACVREP) required or preferred.
• 1 year of experience in a school setting preferred.
• Experience working with children with visual impairments.
• Knowledge of orientation and mobility assessments and instruction.
• Organizational and time-management skills.
• Proficient in use of technology.
• Fingerprint background clearance.
• Ability to collaborate with school staff and parents with tact and discretion.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and assess individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
• Deliver instruction tailored to meet the diverse learning styles and needs of students.
• Collaborate with parents, educators, and specialists to ensure a comprehensive approach to student learning and support.
• Assess school campuses for travel safety.
• Recommend environmental modifications.
• Help plan safe travel routes around the school.
• Monitor student progress and adapt instructional strategies to improve outcomes.
• Provide one-on-one or small group instruction.
• Tailor lessons based on the student’s vision level, age, and mobility needs.
• Adjust strategies for students with additional disabilities.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and progress to inform ongoing instruction and planning.
• Create a welcoming, safe, and productive classroom environment that encourages positive behavior and learning.
• Provide guidance and support to classroom staff in implementing educational strategies for students with special needs.
