Job summary

Hematology & Oncology Associates of Fredericksburg is seeking a medical assistant to support physicians with procedures, phlebotomy, and lab testing in a fast-paced office setting. The role includes quality control, specimen handling, and coordinating external lab tests as needed.

Responsibilities include preparing slides, maintaining logs and equipment records, and documenting patient encounters in the EMR. Travel to other clinic locations may be required; a valid driver's license is needed.

Qualifications

• High School or GED is required.
• BLS certification is required.
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed.
• One-year experience as a medical assistant in clinic or physician's office with venipuncture ability.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians with medical procedures and phlebotomy.
• Perform laboratory blood work and quality control procedures.
• Prepare blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation and manage specimen handling.
• Coordinate outside lab testing and document results in EMR/Onco systems.
• Maintain test logs, QA/QC records, and equipment documentation per regulatory guidelines.
• Document patient data and charge for services rendered in the EMR/superbill.
