Job summary

Southern University at New Orleans is seeking a Part-time Math Tutor to support students in the Writing, Math and Accounting Learning Resource Centers. The role provides in-person and virtual tutoring to individual students and small groups, strengthening mathematics understanding and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities include documenting progress, communicating with the Director, and keeping accurate records for grant reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
• At least two years of experience teaching or tutoring mathematics at the postsecondary level.
• Preferred experience in higher education and supporting diverse learners.

Responsibilities

• Provide scheduled and drop-in mathematics tutoring in person and through approved virtual platforms to individual students and small groups.
• Explain mathematical concepts and problem-solving using varied instructional approaches appropriate for student needs.
• Maintain current knowledge of mathematics content offered through the lab and adapt tutoring methods as curricula and software change.
• Communicate with the Director regarding student visits, progress, recurring challenges, referrals, and support needs.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records of tutoring sessions and progress for grant reporting.
• Assist with collecting and coordinating participation and outcomes data with the Director.
• Support day-to-day lab operations and assist with resources and technologies as needed.
• Protect student information and comply with FERPA and grant documentation requirements.
