Job summary

Prairie View Community Center is seeking a Part-Time Maintenance Technician to ensure the facility remains clean and well-maintained. The role includes light to heavy maintenance tasks and requires lifting heavy objects up to 75 lbs and weekend availability starting at 6:45 a.m., with up to 20 hours per week.

Travel to other Park District facilities may be required to perform cleaning and repairs and to fill for other team members.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• A minimum of one year of previous janitorial or maintenance experience is required.
• A minimum of three years of experience in electrical, plumbing, plaster/paint, and carpentry is preferred.
• Must be self-motivated, demonstrate good judgment, and have the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Perform custodial tasks to maintain a clean appearance inside and outside the Community Center, including snow and ice removal.
• Perform routine maintenance such as cleaning, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, vacuuming, dusting, and washing floors and fixtures.
• Check the building at intervals during working hours for safety, security, and maintenance.
• Take safety precautions and address hazards on the job.
• Maintain positive interactions with staff, the public, and facility patrons.
• Complete required checklists and clean Administration Offices when requested.
• Take down set-ups and clean areas after parties, rentals, and events.
• Must have knowledge of electrical, plumbing, plaster/paint, and carpentry.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Must possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License.

Part-Time Maintenance Technician

Job Description

The Part-Time Maintenance Technician at the Prairie View Community Center is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of the facility. This role includes performing various maintenance tasks and repairs as needed. Candidates must be capable of lifting heavy objects (over 75 lbs.).

The position requires availability beginning at 6:45 a.m. on weekends, with the potential to work up to 20 hours per week. Shifts may vary based on facility needs.

Travel to other Park District facilities may be required to perform cleaning and repairs and to fill for other team members who may be off.

Education & Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A minimum of one year of previous janitorial or maintenance experience is required. A minimum of three years of experience in electrical, plumbing, plaster/paint, and carpentry is preferred. Must be self-motivated, demonstrate good judgment, and have the ability to work independently.

Immediate Supervisor

The Part-Time Maintenance Technician is under the direct supervision of the Facility Foreman.

Qualifications

• Perform custodial tasks necessary to maintain a clean appearance inside and outside of the Community Center, including snow and ice removal.


• Perform routine maintenance, including cleaning, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, vacuuming, dusting, and washing floors, walls, windows, carpeting, washroom fixtures, tables, chairs, and other permanent or movable items or fixtures located within the facility.


• Check the entire building, including upper and lower levels, at periodic intervals during working hours for safety, security, and maintenance purposes.


• Take proper safety precautions, remain aware of potential and existing hazards on the job, and take appropriate steps to eliminate them.


• Maintain positive interactions and cooperation with all Park District staff, members of the public, and facility patrons.


• Clean all areas as instructed by the Facility Foreman and complete required checklists.


• Clean the second-level Administration Offices when requested.


• Take down set-ups and clean areas following parties, rentals, and special events.


• Possess knowledge of electrical, plumbing, plaster/paint, and carpentry.


• Perform additional duties as assigned.


• Must possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License.

Psychological Considerations

The employee works unsupervised and may need to seek out supervision when needed.

Physiological Considerations

The employee may be exposed to odors from cleaning supplies.

Environmental Considerations

The employee may be exposed to cold temperatures due to automatic temperature controls within the building during evening and weekend hours. The employee may also be exposed to cold, snow, and ice while assisting with snow and ice removal.

Cognitive Considerations

The employee must be able to follow instructions, complete assigned tasks independently, identify safety concerns, and use good judgment when addressing maintenance and facility needs.
