Job summary

Channel Islands YMCA is seeking an entry-level Lifeguard to monitor the pool area, assist swimmers in distress, and provide emergency medical assistance as trained. You will support swim lessons and maintain water chemistry while upholding branch rules and safety standards.

The role requires at least 16 years old, a valid lifeguarding certification, and completion of branch trainings. This is a part-time on-site position at Montecito Family YMCA with a friendly team and flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance, if over 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma or equivalent; valid work permit required if a minor.
• Complete YMCA swim test and pass entry written test.
• Possess a basic-level Lifeguarding certification from YMCA or other organizations; Red Cross transition within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant surveillance of water and pool deck areas by 10-10 scanning.
• Assist swimmers in distress and provide emergency medical assistance.
• Support swim lessons and aquatic programs instructors.
• Take and record chemical readings as set forth by the branch.
• Operate pool equipment (lanes lines, chair lift) as required.
• Enforce aquatic rules and educate members about procedures.
• Provide exceptional customer service and foster connections with members.
• Participate in in-service trainings and complete required certifications.
