Job summary

Stuart C Gildred Family YMCA in Santa Ynez, CA is hiring a part-time Lifeguard. You will maintain surveillance, assist in distress situations, and provide emergency medical assistance as trained on the YMCA premises.

The role supports swim lessons and programs while ensuring safety and camaraderie among members. You must be at least 16, pass the YMCA swim test, and hold a basic Lifeguard certification; certification updates within 90 days are required.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance.
• High School Diploma or equivalent; valid work permit required if a minor.
• Previous work experience preferred.
• Must pass YMCA swim test and entry written test.
• Lifeguarding certification from recognized organizations; Red Cross cert within 90 days of hire.
• Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire.
• Complete all branch and position trainings within two weeks of hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant surveillance of water and pool deck areas by 10-10 scanning.
• Assist swimmers in distress.
• Provide emergency medical assistance as trained to any person on the YMCA premise as necessary.
• Provide support to swim lessons and aquatic programs instructors.
• Take and record chemical readings as set forth by branch.
• Know and operate pool equipment as required (lanes, chair lift).
• Enforce and educate members about aquatic rules and procedures.
• Provide exceptional customer service and foster connections with members.
• Participate in in-service trainings and complete required continuing education.
