This position involves providing in-person and virtual tutoring in a welcoming, inclusive environment that fosters academic growth. The role includes 1-on-1 tutoring in life sciences courses, leading group tutoring and study sessions, exam review, and TEAS bootcamp. An ideal candidate will have experience with life science education at the high-school and early college level, strong customer service skills and a passion for helping students succeed.TRIO Student Support Services at Ivy Tech Indianapolis is searching for a part-time tutor in Life Sciences. TRIO SSS is a federally funded program that serves students who are low income, first generation and/or have documented disabilities, to help them persist and succeed in completing their degree.This position is limited to 10 hours per week for 30 weeks during the 2026–2027 academic year. Availability may include in-person, virtual, and weekend hours based on program and student needs.Required Skills & Competencies: 1. Subject Matter ExpertiseProficiency in life science subjects, e.g. Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, Microbiology, ChemistryAdditional knowledge in nursing-related coursework, mathematics coursework, and physical sciences is a plus2. Tutoring & InstructionAbility to quickly identify key student concerns and prioritize subject issuesAbility to guide students through complex concepts with patience and clarityWillingness to dig beneath surface-level questions to address root challenges3. CommunicationExcellent oral and written communicationStrong interpersonal skills to engage effectively with a diverse student populationCapable of maintaining a professional and supportive tone as well as a positive, growth-oriented mindset in all settings4. Learning Environment ManagementMaintain an inclusive, clean, and student-friendly environmentPromote respect and collaboration among students5. Technology ProficiencyComfortable using Windows PCs, MacBooks, and ChromebooksFamiliar with learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard), Microsoft and Google Suites, Zoom, email, and chat toolsExperience with virtual instruction tools (Zoom, screen sharing, writing tablet usage) preferred6. Organizational & Reporting SkillsAccurately track tutoring sessions for outcome reportingAdhere to academic and privacy standards, including FERPA complianceKey Responsibilities:The following is not to be construed as an exhaustive list.
