Job summary

The City of Mesa is recruiting for two part-time Library Assistants at the Red Mountain Library Branch to establish an eligible list for future full-time and part-time vacancies across other library locations.

Library Assistants perform a variety of clerical and paraprofessional tasks, including customer service, cataloging, circulation, reference, and interlibrary loan activities. Assignments may require night and weekend work and the position is FLSA nonexempt.

Qualifications

• Two years of college-level coursework, preferably in Liberal Arts, Library Science, or related field.
• 6 months to 1 year of public contact experience in a library or closely related environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist library users in finding books or information using computer and print resources.
• Train users in the use of computer and print resources.
• Answer routine reference questions and refer complex ones to a Librarian.
• Assist users with specialized equipment.
• Explain or interpret library policy.
• Check materials in/out and manage deposits and patron accounts.
• Receive and process materials for the public.
