Job summary

The Salvation Army Herkimer Corps is seeking a part-time Soup Kitchen Cook to help prepare and serve meals with excellence for the community in Herkimer, NY.

You will plan weekly menus, supervise volunteers, ensure health codes, and coordinate with the corps officer to support fundraising and outreach.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED with 1 year kitchen/food service management experience.
• Experience with purchasing, cost containment and inventory control.
• Excellent spoken and written communication; proficient computer skills; valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Plan menus weekly.
• Prepare meals for about 60 people, 3 times a week.
• Supervise kitchen volunteers from the community.
• Adhere to health code requirements and safety guidelines.
• Maintain overall cleanliness of the kitchen and facility.
• Place food orders and manage supplies.
• Keep track of supplies and reorder as needed.
• Complete paperwork for volunteers and social services as required.
• Attend weekly staff meetings.
• Stock and inventory stored food.
• Orient and train soup kitchen volunteers on safety procedures.
• Assist with fundraising strategies for the soup kitchen.
• Recruit volunteers and groups; assist with accepting food donations.
