Job summary

The New Jewish Home in Manhattan is seeking two part-time Cook's Helpers to join our Food and Nutrition Department. The positions involve two days per week on day and evening shifts and report to the Executive Chef at 120 West 106th Street, NY 10025.

Responsibilities include assisting in meal prep, following portion control, ensuring proper food temperatures, and maintaining sanitation and a clean work area. Prior cooking experience and a high school diploma are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School education or equivalent.
• Prior cooking experience in food service preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review menus prior to food preparation.
• Pre-preparation of meat, vegetables, etc., in accordance with planned menu.
• Serve food with established portion control.
• Prepare food for chopped and puree diets.
• Assure temperatures of food are within guidelines before service.
• Time food preparation to meet service schedules.
• Maintain a good working rapport with department personnel and other departments.
• Attend mandatory facility and departmental in-services.
• Report hazardous conditions/equipment to the Chef/Manager.
• Follow safety regulations and infection control policies.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area.
