Job summary

Brethren in Christ U.S. seeks an Interim Ministry Formation Coordinator to provide leadership, strategic development, and administrative oversight for education, ministry development, and credentialing processes.

The role aligns DSP, Core Courses, and coaching with BIC theology, guiding ministry candidates and leaders across regions. Responsibilities include creating credentialing pathways, designing curricula, and fostering partnerships while reporting to the Director of Shared Services.

Responsibilities

• System Design and Strategy Implementation – Develop a credentialing roadmap from exploration to ordination applicable across regions.
• Continuing Education Program Development – Redesign DSP curriculum, Core Courses, and coaching framework with regional implementation.
• Credentialing Leadership – Develop and update credentialing policies, forms, standards, and protocols for ministerial commissioning, licensing, and ordination.
• Ministerial Formation – Design ministry preparation pathways including mentoring, coaching, and leadership development initiatives.
• Local Church Focus – Create systems to identify and develop ministers within local congregations and support bishops in credentialing.
• Partnership Development – Cultivate academic and training partnerships and pursue external funding for leadership development.

Job description

The Interim Ministry Formation Coordinator provides visionary leadership, strategic development, and administrative oversight for the Brethren in Christ Church’s ongoing education, ministry development, and credentialing processes . This individual develops, implements, and evaluates systems that promote lifelong learning, spiritual formation, ministerial excellence, and credential accountability among lead pastors, ministry leaders, and credentialed workers within the denomination.

Working collaboratively with Leadership Council and the Commission on Ministry and Doctrine (CMD), the Coordinator ensures that credentialing standards and continuing education opportunities align with the theology, values, mission, and governance of the Brethren in Christ Church.

The Interim Ministry Formation Coordinator carries the following responsibilities:

• System Design and Strategy Implementation – Develop a clear, simple credentialing roadmap from exploration to provisional licensure to ordination, that can be consistently applied across regions and ensure alignment between the Directed Studies Program (DSP), Core Courses, coaching, and credentialing programs.
• Continuing Education Program Development – Lead the denomination’s redesign and alignment of the DSP curriculum, Core Courses structure and sequencing, and a coaching framework tied to pastoral competencies that is to be implemented regionally and evaluated periodically.
• Credentialing Leadership – Develop and update credentialing policies, forms, standards and protocols for ministerial commissioning, licensing, and ordination to be used with consistency and integrity across regional conferences. Serve as a resource to Leadership Council and CMD.
• Ministerial Formation – Design pathways for ministry preparation, including mentoring and coaching initiatives and leadership development opportunities between emerging and established leaders.
• Local Church Focus – Create systems that prioritize identifying and developing ministers within local congregations, supporting local churches and bishops in cultivating clear on-ramps to credentialing.
• Partnership Development – Cultivating academic and training partnerships with seminaries and ministry training organizations that benefit Brethren in Christ leaders while pursuing grant opportunities for external funding in support of leadership development initiatives.
• Leadership and Collaboration – Participate in denominational strategic planning related to leadership development and foster collaboration across regional conferences, bishops, CMD, and educational partners. Evaluate and report regularly on progress, challenges, and recommended improvements.
• A clearly articulated, denomination-wide credentialing pathway with supporting materials.
• Integrated DSP, Core Courses, and coaching system aligned to BIC theology and practice.
• Established coaching network and competency framework.
• Functional feedback and evaluation system.
• Demonstrable increase in internally developed ministry candidates.

Qualifications & Competencies

The following qualifications are found to be essential in the work of the Interim Ministry Formation Coordinator:

• A growing relationship with Jesus Christ and alignment with BIC U.S. theology, values, and mission.
• A credentialed minister within BIC U.S. with CMD experience preferred.
• Experience in adult theological education, leadership development, and ministerial training.
• Familiarity with Brethren in Christ governance structures and credentialing procedures.
• Both a visionary and a systems thinker with the ability to translate vision into structured implementation: curriculum development, program design, implementation, and evaluation.
• Administrative abilities in project management, collaboration, and organizational effectiveness.
• Passionate about developing leaders and strengthening the church denominationally and locally.
• Proficiency with Learning Management Systems, MS 365, Outlook, and technologies to enhance learning and ministry development.

The role of Interim Ministry Formation Coordinator may involve travel and requires the ability to move about outside the office. The role will require occasional weekend work related to in person or online events.
