Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking an Immediate Care Technician to support physicians and advance practice providers. This role focuses on efficient patient flow, exam room preparation, vital signs collection, and clinical assistance in a busy outpatient setting.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, eligibility for CMA/RMA/NCMA/CCMA/NRCMA certification within six months, and experience with electronic medical records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must meet candidate eligibility requirements for writing one of the five eligible certification exams (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NRCMA).
• Within first six months of employment, complete one of the following certifications after up to two test attempts: CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA, or NRCMA.
• Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic or EMT – Basic certification or IL EMT License; Certification required upon hire.
• Preferred: Experience with electronic medical record; college degree or interest in healthcare; 1–2 years ambulatory care experience.

Responsibilities

• Assists with patient flow by escorting to exam rooms and preparing patients for examination.
• Obtains vital signs and documents visit reasons, allergies, smoking history, and pharmacy information.
• Assists with referrals, transfers and discharge processes; supports MD/APP with procedures.
• Prepares and stocks exam rooms; maintains clean and safe treatment areas; monitors equipment.
