Job summary

Corewell Health's Royal Oak Hospital is seeking a part-time pediatric educational specialist to support hospitalized children and coordinate with school systems. You will plan daily lessons, arrange homebound services when needed, and advocate for the student’s educational rights as they return to class.

You will collaborate with care teams, teachers, and the Child Life program to address psychosocial needs and ensure continued school progress and family engagement throughout the patient’s

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required
• 5 years of relevant teaching experience
• Special education teaching preferred
• Behavioral/mental health experience preferred
• CRT-BLS (AHA/ARC) within 90 days required
• CRT-Teacher Certificate (MDE) within 1 year required

Responsibilities

• Identify pediatric patients in need of educational support in collaboration with care team and family; advocate for patient and family.
• Facilitate meetings, work with the media, and develop public awareness activities.
• Collaborate with the Child Life team to provide programming addressing psychosocial and developmental needs.
• Coordinate with local schools for current work and arrange flow of assignments between hospital and school; plan daily lessons and report progress.
• Assist local teachers in understanding new educational needs for successful return to classroom.
• Help families understand educational rights per state and federal regulations.
• Establish a volunteer tutor program with volunteer services to meet educational needs.
