Job summary

SpartanNash is seeking a part-time cashier for Chief Supermarket in Defiance, OH. You will operate the cash register and scanner to itemize purchases, accept payments, bag items, and provide courteous service to customers.

The role requires basic math, good communication, and the ability to promote loyalty programs while maintaining a clean, organized checkout area and following all safety policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• One year retail or related experience preferred.
• Good verbal communication skills.
• Customer service and organizational skills; detail-oriented.
• Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Operate cash register and scanner to itemize purchases and total.
• Process cash, checks, cards, loyalty, and coupons accurately.
• Weigh and bag customer purchases.
• Use check-stand equipment efficiently (register/scanner/scale).
• Handle front-end duties and merchandising at the check-stand.
• Ensure proper PLU usage and report pricing or signage errors.
• Maintain knowledge of store programs and product locations.
• Explain loyalty programs and in-store specials to customers.
• Follow security, cash handling and safety policies.
• Keep the department clean and well-stocked; assist stocking as needed.
