Job summary

SpartanNash in South Bend, IN is hiring a part-time cashier to operate the register, handle sales, and assist customers with bagging and product location. You will process a variety of payments, apply discounts and loyalty offers, and maintain a clean, friendly front-end.

Prior retail experience is preferred along with strong communication and reliability. The position requires basic math, product knowledge, and adherence to safety and store policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• One year of retail or related experience preferred.
• Good verbal communication skills; ability to interact politely and effectively with customers.
• Good customer service and organizational skills; detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Operate cash register and electronic scanner to itemize customer purchases; handle a variety of products including groceries and perishables.
• Process transactions including cash, checks, credit cards, EBT, loyalty cards, gift certificates, rain checks and coupons accurately.
• Weigh and bag customer purchases.
• Understand use of check-stand equipment (register, scanner, scale) and its efficient operation.
• Assist with merchandising at the check-stand and keep displays tidy.
• Ensure correct PLU usage and report pricing or signage errors.
• Communicate programs, in-store specials and coupons to customers and model high service standards.
• Comply with cash handling, security, and PPE/safety policies; maintain a clean, stocked department.
• May assist with stocking and other departments as needed.
