Job summary

The Patrick J. McGovern Foundation is seeking a Part-time Controller (approx 20 hrs/wk) to lead day‑to‑day accounting, ensure GAAP compliance, and develop scalable financial systems in a growing philanthropic foundation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with 2‑5 years of related work experience.
• Public accounting/CPA experience preferred.
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of investment accounting.
• Strong knowledge of accounting concepts and nonprofit GAAP (FASB).
• Aptitude for system and data management with accuracy and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the DFO to design and implement scalable accounting and financial reporting systems.
• Transfer day‑to‑day accounting activities from outsourced firm and internalize functions.
• Develop accounting policies to ensure a strong internal control environment.
• Collaborate with Grants Manager to integrate grants management with financial systems.
• Prepare interim financial statements and monthly reports complying with GAAP.
• Maintain the general ledger and post journal entries, reconcile investments.
• Process payments, wire transfers, and ensure adherence to Foundation policies.
• Assist with budget development, variance analysis, and payroll related tasks.
• Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements affecting philanthropic institutions.
