Job summary

Scion Nonprofit Staffing is seeking an experienced Controller for a premier organization supporting philanthropic and private foundation activities. You will own complex accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and grants accounting, reporting to the Senior Accounting Director, with two direct reports.

Relocation is supported. The role is full-time and onsite in Menlo Park, CA, with a competitive salary and annual incentive/benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or related field; CPA preferred.
• 10+ years in accounting with 4+ years at Controller level in private foundations.
• Expert nonprofit GAAP knowledge and private foundation accounting/compliance.
• Strong IRC Chapter 42, Form 990-PF familiarity; tax experience preferred.
• Experience with international grantmaking and investment accounting; advanced Excel; NetSuite/Concur/Adaptive/Salesforce.

Responsibilities

• Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close with GAAP nonprofit statements.
• Lead financial reporting, budgeting, cash forecasting, and internal controls.
• Manage private foundation tax/regulatory work including Form 990-PF.
• Oversee grants accounting, multi-year grants, international grantmaking, and program-related investments.
• Coordinate annual financial statement audits and tax/regulatory reporting.
• Supervise finance staff and drive process improvements and automation.
