Job summary

The Salvation Army Midland Division Southern Illinois Area Command (SIAC) in Marion, Illinois, is seeking a part-time Food Pantry Assistant working 25 hours per week. The position supports food acquisition, delivery, stocking, and preparing food boxes for clients; starting wage is $15.00 per hour.

Applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid Illinois driver’s license, and data-entry ability.

Qualifications

• High school or equivalent diploma and one year experience in an office environment.
• Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License and pass TSA MVR check.
• Must be able to communicate with clients in person and by phone.
• Must be able to read and write, and enter and retrieve data from a computer data base.
• Ability to use Word and Excel is a plus.
• Must be a team player, a self-starter and perform well with minimum supervision.
• Must demonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality of client information.
• Must have an outgoing personality with good communication skills and an ability to work with diverse cultures.
• Good organizational skills required.
• Commitment to carry out The Salvation Army’s mission is essential.

Responsibilities

• Review intake form with client(s), obtaining additional information/documentation as required to determine eligibility.
• Search computer database, and enter any new clients or changes to existing clients’ data into the computer system.
• Prepare, move and carry food boxes/bags for clients based on family size.
• Keep food pantry stocked and rotate stock to prevent long-term holding.
• Order food from The Central Illinois Foodbank and arrange transportation.
• Keep records of food offered, accepted and rejected from the foodbank and other sources.
