Job summary

South Asian Youth Action (SAYA) is seeking a part-time Dance Activity Specialist for elementary students in Elmhurst, NY. You will design and lead engaging dance lessons across styles such as hip-hop, ballet and modern, fostering creativity, confidence, and teamwork in a school-day, after-school setting.

Responsibilities include curriculum planning, supervising activities, and maintaining a supportive learning environment while adhering to SACC requirements and health/safety standards.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching dance to elementary-age children in school, camp or community programs.
• Minimum of 2 years of academic preparation in dance or creative movement.
• Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities.
• Experience designing and delivering courses to support youth success.
• Knowledge of teaching hip-hop, African dance, Latin, jazz, modern, ballet and lyrical to elementary students.

Responsibilities

• Supervise activities to ensure health, safety and well-being of participants.
• Develop and implement dance lesson plans across multiple styles.
• Create a culturally responsive environment reflecting diverse student backgrounds.
• Incorporate skill-building activities progressing toward a student showcase.
• Maintain classroom order and positive learning environment.
• Foster positive relationships with youth and adults; model professional conduct.
• Assist with ordering and maintaining equipment and supplies.
