Job summary

The Salvation Army Anew Center in Jamestown, NY seeks a Part Time Crisis and Services Advocate to support the Shelter Manager and Program Director in delivering services across domestic violence and rape crisis programs. You will assist with intake, crisis intervention, shelter operations, and ensure safety and confidentiality for residents.

Responsibilities include answering the 24-hour hotline, providing information and referrals, maintaining the shelter, attending trainings, and transporting

Qualifications

  • Must satisfactorily complete sexual assault training to be a certified rape crisis counselor.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license that meets The Salvation Army insurance requirements.
  • Must have computer/typing skills in order to complete statistics, maintain case files, and correspond via email communication.
  • Must have the ability to climb stairs and carry supplies to and from upper levels of the building.

Responsibilities

  • Read and follow The Salvation Army Employee Handbook and Anew Center policy and procedures.
  • Approve client admission into shelter and complete intake information, including the DHHS application.
  • Provide care for shelter residents to ensure safety and basic needs are met.
  • Ensure shelter rules are followed according to policy and procedure.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the shelter and resident rooms, sort donations, laundry and organize supplies.
  • Assist in food preparation and housekeeping duties as necessary.
  • Answer the Domestic Violence/Rape Crisis phone lines, including the 24 hour hotline.
  • Assess needs, offer information and referrals, and provide crisis intervention to clients.
  • Conduct a walk through of shelter during each shift.
  • Complete service reports, track statistics, and other assigned paperwork.
  • Provide Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence emergency advocacy and accompaniment services as directed.
  • Attend trainings a minimum of 10 hours annually.
  • Transport clients to shelter and appointments as directed.
  • Ensure compliance with fire and safety procedures.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Communicate pertinent information to supervisor or Program Director.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings; participate in agency events as requested.
  • Serve as a Mandated Reporter and report incidents of child abuse/neglect.
  • Meals on-the-job with non-deducted meal period unless off-clock arrangements are made.
  • Coverage for other shifts may be required due to 24-hour operations.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned by supervision.
