Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (Part-Time) for Marion Correctional Treatment Center in Virginia. The position provides nursing care within adult correctional facilities, following the nursing process and standards of practice, including triage, medication administration, patient education, and emergency care.

This wage position is limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period, with no state benefits.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license.
• Working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of practical or general nursing care.
• Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals.
• Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers’ orders in applying treatments.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to administer practical nursing care.
• Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through AHA or ARC is required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care within adult institutions by utilizing the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation).
• Deliver services including 24-hour nursing care, telemedicine, chronic clinics, triage, medication administration, and patient education.
• Document information in the health record and maintain confidentiality; interface with other departments as needed.
• Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet clinical and administrative needs.
• Coverage as needed to meet institutional needs; focus on evidence-based nursing care and continued competence through education/certification.
