Job summary

The Brand Guild is seeking a seasoned Part-time Controller to own financial reporting, controls, and cash management while directly overseeing the part-time bookkeeper. This hybrid DC-based role requires about 60 hours per month and involves working with leadership to ensure accurate close and compliant reporting.

You will manage monthly close, prepare statements, and maintain department P&Ls across eight service lines, with an emphasis on internal controls and audit readiness.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience with controller-level responsibility.
• Experience supervising a bookkeeper or staff accountant.
• CPA license or CPA-track background is a plus, not required.
• Experience with services-agency financials (retainer/project revenue recognition).

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly close process and approve journal entries.
• Prepare monthly P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow for leadership.
• Maintain department-level P&Ls across eight service departments.
• Monitor weekly cash position and rolling cash flow forecasts.
• Review and approve AP disbursements and payroll funding.
• Establish and maintain internal controls over billing, collections, and vendor payments.
• Review client billing accuracy and support collections escalations on overdue accounts.
• Oversee retainer, project, and client reimbursable expenses invoicing.
• Directly supervise the part-time bookkeeper's day-to-day transactional work.
