New Jersey Institute of Technology seeks Part-time Mentor for the NJ GEAR UP/College Bound program. Mentors guide students through tutoring, workshops, and field trips to promote college readiness and personal growth.

The role involves mentoring sessions during the academic year and summer, with hours typically 8:00–2:00 or 3:00–5:00, plus occasional Saturdays. A background check is required for employment at NJIT.

Qualifications

• Completion of the equivalent coursework of a college sophomore (24 credits) and current enrollment in good academic standing, or graduation from an accredited college or university.
• Education and experience prerequisites may be waived if an equivalent combination of education and experience is demonstrated.

Responsabilités

• Participate in NJ College Bound Mentor Training.
• Provide mentoring support and guidance to encourage higher education.
• Meet regularly with assigned participants per the work schedule.
• Assist mentees in developing personal, academic, and life skills.
• Help mentees set realistic academic and career goals.
• Assist counselors in completing and reviewing each participant's Personal Education Plan (PEP).
• Accompany mentees on field trips and program-sponsored activities.
• Conduct and/or assist with workshops on life skills and college readiness.
• Evaluate and document progress of mentees.
• Provide participants with academic and community resource information.
• Commit to serving for a minimum of one full program session.
