Job summary

Family Dollar is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to support daily store operations, customer service, and team development. This role involves organizing merchandise, assisting with openings/closings, processing directives, and maintaining a safe, presentable store environment.

The position emphasizes leadership, communication, and strong organizational skills, with duties spanning merchandise handling, payroll-related tasks, and loss prevention in a fast-paced retail setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred; ability to read, interpret, and explain operational directives is required.
• Store management experience in retail or grocery environment is preferred.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and written skills are required.
• Ability to work in a high-energy, team environment is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with store functions and day-to-day store activities.
• Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address questions or concerns.
• Organize, transfer merchandise from delivery to stockroom to sales floor and maintain seasonal areas.
• Perform opening and closing procedures as needed.
• Process corporate directives and communications related to store activities.
• Maintain store fixtures, displays, and overall promotional effectiveness.
• Assist in ordering merchandise, processing damaged merchandise, payroll records, scheduling, and cash handling.
• Maintain a clean, well-stocked store and secure assets including cash.
• Enforce policies and safety guidelines and train/develop store associates.
• Supervise and train store associates and maintain a respectful environment.
