Job summary

City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department is seeking a year-round Sign Language Interpreter to support inclusive recreation experiences for Deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals. You will convey instruction and intent during programs, meetings, trainings, and related activities across multiple City facilities and outdoor venues.

Hours are varied, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends, with work performed in indoor and outdoor settings.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of American Sign Language and English.
• Understanding of Deaf culture and communication needs.
• Able to interpret accurately in active recreational, educational, and community settings.
• Adheres to NAD/RID Code of Professional Conduct and ethical business practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate ASL interpretation to facilitate communication in recreation settings.
• Offer ASL services during interviews, orientations, and instructional programs as needed.
• Support communication between Deaf/hard-of-hearing participants and staff and volunteers.
• Travel to various program sites to provide interpretation services as required.
