Job summary

The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking an Afterschool Coordinator at the Castle Hill YMCA in the Bronx, NY. This part-time role supports academic enrichment, supervision, and safe, engaging afterschool activities for school-age children in alignment with program goals.

Under the supervision of the Program Director, you will maintain records, coordinate activities, collaborate with host schools and community partners, and help foster a positive learning environment with a focus on SEL and

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required. An Associate’s Degree in Education is preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with children under the age of 13.
• Current Pediatrics CPR or First Aid certifications preferred.
• General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, and comfortable working with diverse youth and adults.
• Y Afterschool programs operate Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and during public-school breaks.

Responsibilities

• Direct programs serving the designated grade level band (K-5 or 6-8), ensuring all activities are age-appropriate and aligned with DYCD program requirements.
• Drive the adoption of best practices in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and oversee engaging activities that support holistic student development.
• Ensure programs are integrated into the specific community we serve and meet diverse needs.
• Develop and execute strategies for recruiting and retaining participants to sustain program engagement.
• Utilize quantitative measures and evaluations to demonstrate program effectiveness.
• Routinely analyze data to identify trends and implement improvements.
• Establish and maintain connections with partners and funders to enhance program services.
• Promote best practices in mental wellness and train staff accordingly.
• Oversee selection of an evidence-based SEL curriculum and ensure clear competency goals.
• Cultivate relationships with host school administration and staff.
• Coordinate planned activity schedules to align with host school goals.
• Maintain program documentation per OCFS, DOH, DYCD, and YMCA requirements.
• Communicate YMCA core values to participants and caregivers.
• Engage with parents/guardians about child progress and growth.
• Participate in training, meetings, and events.
• Adhere to all standards and regulations from OCFS, DOH, DYCD, YMCA and partners.
