Job summary

The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking an Afterschool Coordinator to support the Y Afterschool and Y Core programs in Long Island City. You will provide a safe, engaging environment for school-age children, create weekly lesson plans, coordinate staff, and maintain documentation per licensing requirements.

Responsibilities include supervising activities 2:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m., partnering with families, ensuring health and safety, and supporting program goals aligned with school standards and the

Qualifications

• College degree or equivalent work experience required.
• Minimum of two years of experience with youth.
• Current CPR/First Aid preferred.
• Experience with afterschool programs is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide close supervision of activities to ensure safety.
• Manage day-to-day operations of the Afterschool and Y Core programs.
• Maintain accurate program documentation and licensing records.
• Plan, create, and implement weekly lesson plans.
• Observe and address individual student needs and issues.
• Foster family engagement and refer families as needed.
• Develop positive relationships with parents and guardians.
• Monitor staff training attendance and certifications.
• Ensure supplies and equipment are available and safe.
• Participate in trainings, meetings, and events.
