Job summary

PAL NY is seeking a Part-Time Activity Specialist to develop and deliver a broad range of SEL, dance, sports, STEAM, and life-skills programs at PS 136, Queens. You will work with staff and leadership to run engaging activities and support youth across ages.

Requirements include a high school diploma, 18+, two years in nonprofit youth work, strong classroom facilitation, and bilingual ability preferred. Compensation ranges $20–$25 per hour, with orientation and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
• At least 18 years old.
• Two years of nonprofit youth work experience.
• Excellent classroom management and facilitation skills.
• Sample lesson may be part of the interview.
• Bi-lingual in Spanish, French, or Chinese preferred.
• Willing to learn mental health, SEL, and inclusion skills.

Responsibilities

• Foster social and emotional well-being in a safe, inclusive environment.
• Teach participants fundamentals of specialized activities.
• Coordinate and present a culminating performance at program end.
• Assist students with IEPs and medical needs following support plans.
• Provide referrals to mental health services as needed.
• Collaborate with staff, teachers and site leadership.
• Build positive relationships with youth and caretakers.
• Attend staff meetings and community events as required.
• Maintain open communication with caretakers.
